It was with great sadness on Saturday (8th) that we shared the passing of Anthony ‘Drumjacker’ Matters, we may have parted ways but Anthony was and will always be our brother. That is just the reality of band life, a family sharing; vans, beds, sweat, blood, tears; and watching a man pull out his own dread locks and discarding them along the Hume Highway.
We were luckier than most, we were of course fortunate enough to experience Anthony’s; conviction, drive, enthusiasm and passion; but more than that, we were there to feel his warmth and humanity. Anthony as many know didn’t have an easy life and fought his battles; but regardless, in spite of this he gave himself completely to those around him, sharing his love freely and unconditionally. Anyone who experienced a Matter’s hug can testify; always strong with out breaking bones, the simple intimate expression of his joy at being in your presence. This is a simple gift that many do not possess, and something that all of us who experienced will not forget.
Through music; our lives in some way have all come in contact with Anthony’s, whether you know him as; The Drumjacker, Matt Bastard, Anthony ‘Ant’, ‘Matt’ Matters, Bir, or most importantly to a couple of young people ‘Dad’, he touched all our lives in one way or another. In the smallest of ways we can consider our loss luckier than most, when we are missing Anthony we can always press play and there he’ll be again back with us.
Anthony; ‘Not a day goes by when we don’t spare you a thought’ https://youtu.be/fI8MYiZBp-4 you are loved and forever missed, rest in peace brother.
